Exodus 2:11-3:22 Matthew 17:10-27 Psalm 22:1-18 Proverbs 5:7-14
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? – Psalm 22:1
Jesus said these words while on the cross. Some thought Jesus was calling for Elijah, as they didn’t speak Hebrew. Some scholars believe Jesus was quoting Psalm 22. They didn’t have the chapters and verses like we do today, and they Psalms were known by the first line in the text. Saying the first line would then be a reference to the whole Psalm. Others argue that Jesus was speaking what was in His heart and on His mind.
Perhaps both are true. Read through this first half of Psalm 22 from the perspective of Jesus’ crucifixion. Is it possible that God inspired David to write this psalm? Would it make a difference in how you see God if He did?
Many of us have gone through or are going through hard times. Sometimes it gets to the point where we finally break and ask God, “Where are You? Don’t You care? Why do You rescue other people, but not me?”
Jesus knows exactly how that feels. No one can know what we’re going through better than Jesus. When you’re feeling like this, I encourage you to put it all out there to Him. Ask Him where He is and if He cares. Tell Him all the details of the situation. Give it to Him. Then take time to listen. He just might give you exactly what you need.
Lord Jesus, thank You for going through a harder time than any of us have experienced for us. Still, we have these challenges that are impossible for us to go through without You. Come and speak to our hearts today. Let us know that You are still with us, that You still care about us, and that our trust in You is not misplaced. Amen.
