Genesis 1 & 2, Matthew 1-2:12, Psalm 1, Proverbs 1:1-6
“Blessed are those who do not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers but who delight in the law of the LORD and meditate on his law day and night” (Psalm 1:1,2 TNIV).
Imagine meeting someone when you were nineteen years old and falling in love with them. So much so that you marry that person that very same day. However, after that day you both go your different ways, only seeing each other once a week for a couple of hours during which you may or may not stay awake the whole time. Would you consider this a healthy relationship? Is this someone you would look forward to spending eternity with?
This is not the kind of relationship God is looking for either. When we take time to be with God each day and read the Bible, His love letter to us, we will find we grow closer to Him over time. We will feel sad when we miss our time together and look forward to when we will be with Him again. He will change our hearts, and we will follow His ways without even thinking about it. Best of all, we will look forward to living with Him forever.
Father God, this year, we want to commit to spending a part of our day with You. We want to have a real relationship with You where we will grow in Your love, where You will teach us what it means to live with You, and our hearts and lives will be forever changed. Thank You for wanting to spend this time with us, too. Amen.
