Genesis 31:17-32:12 Matthew 10:24-11:6 Psalm 13 Proverbs 3:16-18
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart? – Psalm 13:2
Sometimes prayer feels like calling God and getting His voice mail. We try again and again and still, it seems all we get is voice mail and He isn’t calling us back. This is only made worse by the fact there is something we’ve been struggling and wrestling with and the One who would be of most help is out of reach.
David struggled with this very problem. Only he had people chasing after him trying to kill him. Still, he chose to trust in God and His unfailing love. A choice based on what he knew about God rather than how he felt at the time. Jesus reminds us in Matthew that God knows how many hairs on each of our heads at any given time—that’s how much he cares for us. Even John the baptizer struggled with his faith. At the end of the day, we get to choose whether to trust in what we know about God and what we’ve seen Him do in the past or to believe our feelings that God has abandoned us.
Father God, we want to hear from You everyday. We want to feel close to You and feel that You are with us, answering our questions. Help us to know that You still love us and are still taking care of us even when it seems You are out of reach. We want to trust and believe in You even when we cannot feel it. Amen.
