Genesis 26:17-27:46 Matthew 9:1-17 Psalm 10:16-18 Proverbs 3:9-10
Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.” – Genesis 27:19 TNIV
Have you ever felt that you needed to trick God into blessing you? That if God really knew you for who you really are, He wouldn’t love you or want to save you? God pronounced that Jacob would be blessed over his brother when they were born, yet Jacob and his mother couldn’t help making it happen. Can you imagine how Jacob must’ve felt afterward? He had the blessing he was looking for, but he knew his father thought he was blessing his brother and now his brother wanted to kill him.
When we come to God trying to trick him, are we really on very sound footing? That same feeling of ‘if God really knew’ haunts our minds and we have to wonder if it really worked.
The reality is that God does really know. He is waiting for us to come out of hiding, to be real and honest with Him. Then He will give us a blessing, along with His love, and rescue us from sin and death. It is hard and scary to admit who we are to God, but it is worth it.
Father God, it’s me. I’m coming to You today without any disguises. Do You have a blessing for me? Do You really love me, knowing who I am? Please give me Your blessing and love today, even though I know I don’t deserve it. Amen.
