Exodus 10-12:13 Matthew 20:1-28 Psalm 25:1-15 Proverbs 6:6-11
The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. – Exodus 12:13 TNIV
God’s instructions were clear: paint the tops and sides of the doorframes with the blood of the lamb. That was the sign of God’s people. Did God really need the people to identify themselves? Would God have made a mistake when killing firstborns and get some of the firstborns of those who were trusting Him?
Or was this a practice for God’s people. An easy way to put faith into action. Imagine, nine plagues have hit Egypt. Some of them hit Goshen, too, but the final plagues have not. Each family would have a choice: make the sacrifice and risk looking silly when painting the doorframes or to decide that God is really to loving and forgiving to really put His people through this plague. Which would you choose?
Today, God asks us to paint the doorframes of our hearts with Jesus’ blood. Sure, it’s a spiritual step of faith. But then, when we act on our faith, it becomes visible to everyone around us. Simply acting out on our faith makes our trust in God stronger. It’s worth looking a little silly over. Because just like nobody thought it was silly the next morning in Egypt, nobody will think it is silly when Jesus comes to claim those who have claimed Him.
Lord Jesus, paint the doorframes of our hearts and minds with Your blood. Give us the courage to act out on our faith in You that has grown to this point. Encourage us to claim You publicly in our lives today because we want to be claimed by You when You come back. Amen.
