Exodus 4-5:21 Matthew 18:1-20 Psalm 22:19-31 Proverbs 5:15-21
Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord.
They will proclaim his righteousness,
declaring to a people yet unborn:
He has done it! – Psalm 22:30-31
Yesterday, we looked at the first half of this psalm from the perspective of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. We saw how Jesus felt the separation from God as He took responsibility for our sins. Surely it seemed a losing proposition. He was being beaten and crucified by the very people He came to save and now even God’s presence was gone. Then Jesus died.
But that was not the end of the story—or this psalm. God did not reject Jesus and His suffering. In fact, God used that suffering to pay what we owed for those sins. Jesus came back to life! Now this story has been told around the world for the last 2,000 years, and it isn’t slowing down. It is the reason we have hope! God heard Jesus’ prayer and used His suffering to rescue His people. Not just the Hebrew people, but anyone who wants to be a part of His eternal kingdom. He has done it!
Lord Jesus, You didn’t have to go through all that pain and suffering for us. But the fact that You did goes to show how much You really do love us—how much You want us to be a part of Your kingdom. Don’t let this love in our hearts ever die. Let it spill out on everyone we talk with today. Amen.
